Parasitology Lab Aide; Overnight Shift

Work Shift: 11pm–7:30am, Monday–Friday with alternating Saturdays.

Target Pay: $18.46 per hour. Pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing and preparation of fecal samples.

• Collect fecal specimens, login, scan into loads, and prepare for setup.
• Meet all minimum department requirements for para loads and Fcombo setup rates.
• Accurately build loads and label processing tubes.
• Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
• Find missing specimens; print and reconcile queue lists.
• Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
• Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.
• Be aware of quality control and calibration.
• Cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within the department/lab.
• Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Restock supplies as needed.
• Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
• Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in English to participate in team meetings and accurately enter data into company systems.
• Positive, can-do attitude.

• Stationary position; may be required to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
• Operate lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
• Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
• Lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
• Observing details at close range; extended hours may be needed.
• Laboratory environments with potential biohazards mitigated by PPE.
• General instructions on routine work; detailed instructions on new assignments.
• Work under close to moderate supervision.
• Potential exposure to agents that may cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
