JOB DESCRIPTION

The Engineer at Janko Hospitality plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of hotel facilities by repairing and maintaining the hotel’s physical assets. The Engineer will be responsible for keeping the hotel in compliance with state and local regulations, as well as the hotel’s policies and brand standards for quality, cleanliness, guest satisfaction, safety, and security.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Flexible

    Schedule:

    Available for 1st and 2nd shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Mechanical Expertise:
    Strive for independence as a mechanic, demonstrating proficiency in problem analysis and efficient task planning.
  • Maintenance Tasks:
    Perform daily maintenance under the Chief Engineer's guidance to minimize equipment downtime. Handle upkeep of rooms and common areas, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical repairs, and minor repairs such as tile replacement, painting, and carpentry.
  • Exterior Maintenance:
    Maintain cleanliness of the hotel’s exterior, parking lot, landscaping, and handle snow removal as necessary.
  • Repair Reporting:
    Promptly report major repair needs to the Chief Engineer.
  • Tool Usage:
    Proficiently utilize basic hand and power tools, ensuring proper storage and maintenance.
  • Materials Coordination:
    Work with the Chief Engineer to coordinate the procurement of materials, tools, and supplies for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Security & Safety:
    Follow proper security procedures, ensuring room doors are locked at all times. Report any suspicious activity involving guests, visitors, or staff.
  • Lost and Found:
    Properly label any lost or found items and turn them in to the appropriate Manager.
  • Emergency Response:
    Monitor fire alarm and life safety systems, and respond quickly and responsibly to emergencies, restoring the building to its normal operational status.
  • Guest and Staff Requests:
    Respond to immediate repair requests from staff and guests.
  • Appearance & Professionalism:
    Maintain a high standard of personal appearance, ensuring the uniform is neat and clean. Greet guests, visitors, and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Public Area Inspections:
    When asked, inspect and clean public areas to ensure a high level of presentation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Grasping, lifting, pushing, and pulling of equipment and supplies (up to 100 lbs with assistance).
  • Ability to stand and walk for 90% of the workday, with limited sitting during breaks.
  • Reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and crawling are required.
  • Climbing stairs is also required.
DOCUMENTATION & COMMUNICATION
  • Documentation & Communication:
    Able to read and interpret documents, write reports, and communicate clearly with guests, visitors, and staff.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    Perform other duties as assigned or requested by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED, with a focus on technical trades.
  • Experience:

    Previous experience in maintenance or groundskeeping is required.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Must have working knowledge of general repairs, including plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical systems, kitchen equipment, and energy conservation practices.
  • Hotel

    Experience:

    Previous hotel maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Customer Service

    Skills:

    Friendly demeanor with strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Efficiency & Organization:
    Ability to work efficiently under time constraints, with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Independence & Teamwork:
    Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Driver’s License: A valid state driver’s license is required.
