SUMMARY

Butler School District is seeking a dynamic, energetic 6-8 Advanced Learner Program ELA Teacher/Differentiation Specialist who maintains a positive learning environment, holds high academic expectations, and creates a student-centered classroom while building rapport with students, parents and staff. We are looking for exceptional candidates who will assist our schools in creating an exemplar learning community where everyone seeks and implements strategies for improving student achievement and growth.

This person will work collaboratively in professional learning communities to achieve goals with a common purpose focused on student learning.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Advanced Learning Program ELA Teacher/Differentiation Specialist will facilitate the grades 6-8 Accelerated Learning Program model for English Language Arts (ELA). This role ensures that the curriculum design meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted and advanced students while providing district-wide professional development on best teaching and learning practices. This specialist will assist grades 6-8 ELA teachers with job-embedded support by co-teaching and modeling effective instructional strategies.

Through partnership with teachers, the Specialist will collaborate to develop student-centered goals grounded in data with staff members and/or team to inform instructional planning decisions and areas for focus while monitoring progress toward those goals.

POSITION FLEXIBILITY AND SUMMER REQUIREMENTS
  • Summer Availability: The candidate must be available approximately 2-3 weeks from the end of July to early August to lead professional development sessions and facilitate intensive curriculum planning and mapping for the district.
  • Compensation for Summer Work: Additional summer compensation will be provided to facilitate the required professional development and curriculum planning.
POSITION DETAILS

Work Days: 180 (plus mandatory compensated summer hours)

Salary Range: $63,000 +;
Initial salary is determined by prior experience and education.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S)
  • CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S): Current Illinois Elementary Professional Educator License (PEL)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Gifted Education Specialist Endorsement or currently enrolled in coursework is preferred.
  • Experience with the delivery of professional development to adult learners is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience with accelerated/gifted learners at the middle school or high school level.
  • Masters Degree in a curricular content field.
  • Literacy Leadership:
    Deep knowledge of research-based literacy strategies to support middle grades learners across content areas.
  • Demonstrated success with curriculum mapping and curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated success using Differentiated Instruction in the middle grades/high school classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated success using best instructional and assessment practices in a middle grades/high school classroom.
