Overview

The primary purpose of this role is to perform maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing and/or vehicle servicing, and to maintain hospital grounds and parking lots. Work is performed under the supervision of the ES Director and in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures as directed by the Administrator, to assure the highest degree of quality care and safety.

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:
As a Mechanic, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, preventative maintenance and basic repairs to equipment and systems, including plumbing, mechanical and carpentry.
  • Ensure work orders are completed on a timely basis; check the work order system daily and address high priority orders ASAP.
  • Assist in assembling/installing new equipment and completing renovations as directed.
  • Perform snow removal as necessary, including plowing, shoveling, sanding and salting during winter months to keep pathways safe.
  • Use maintenance power tools and equipment (e.g., saws, testing equipment) to complete tasks.
  • Perform carpentry, plumbing and mechanical tasks; remove debris from hospital grounds by various means.
  • Regularly inspect life safety equipment and keep fire pathways clear.
  • Repair, patch and refinish painted or vinyl surfaces on interior and/or exterior of the building as directed.
  • Report safety incidents, accidents and hazards; take appropriate corrective action to address safety or environmental hazards.
  • Use Department supplies and equipment efficiently and maintain proper security for equipment and supplies.
  • Comply with hospital and department policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to the job.
  • Demonstrate the hospital’s mission and values, including teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
  • Participate in problem identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
  • Meet departmental customer service standards and strive to enhance service quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; maintain a clean, organized workshop and work area; monitor parts and stock levels; participate in on-call rotation.
Education and

Licensure/Certification s
  • Education
    :
    • Required:

      High School diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Preferred:
      On-the-job training or apprenticeship program in a related field.
  • Licensure/Certification s/Registrations
    :
    • Required:

      Valid Driver's license.
Experience
  • Required:

    Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, maintenance, or painting.
  • Preferred:
    Experience working in the healthcare field, and/or painting experience.
