Job Description
The primary role of the Emergency Department Physician Assistant will be to provide direct care management of Emergency Department (ED) patients in collaboration with the ED attending physician(s) and other members of a multidisciplinary ED team. This position is specifically to improve care for patients being evaluated and treated in the ED.
As a Physician Assistant, you are delegated the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses
- Perform age‑appropriate history and physical examinations
- Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age‑specific needs
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments to patient’s age‑specific needs
- Monitor the effectiveness of treatments
- Provide education on acute and chronic medical conditions
- Manage chronic medical conditions
- Reconcile medication lists
- Facilitate appointments to specialists
- Provide thorough examinations and evaluations of patient’s health status
- Facilitate appropriate chronic care management (e.g., diabetic eye exams, foot exams, and nutritional counseling)
- Perform preventive medicine, keeping track of and referring patients to appropriate preventive medical screenings (e.g., mammograms and colonoscopies)
- Provide counseling and reinforcement of healthy lifestyle habits
- Physician Assistant certification
- Massachusetts license
- ACLS Certificate
- MCSR (Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration)
- Proficient computer skills (MS Word)
- EMR experience required
- Ability to document in electronic health record completely and accurately
- Knowledge of clinical reminders and how to use them appropriately
- Good communication skills, both spoken and written
- Willing and able to work in a team environment
