JOB TITLE: Journeyman - Carpenter

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARYTo provide staff and students with an attractive, comfortable, and safe environment in which to work and learn.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSThe Carpenter journeyman employee shall demonstrate an aptitude for the successful performance of the tasks listed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Be assigned general maintenance responsibilities as needs dictate. General maintenance responsibilities include:
- Installation or removal of drywall partitions in rooms.
- Planning and completion of construction of simple buildings.
- Renovation of building interior areas.
- Installation of doors in drywall and concrete block walls.
- Planning and construction of cabinetwork items (bookcases, storage cabinets, shelving, etc.).
- Carpentry work.
- Window replacement and/or repair.
- Maintain accurate record keeping and inventory to allow work orders to be completed in an accurate, efficient, economical, and quality manner.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms at all times when performing custodial duties.
- Perform emergency repairs as needed.
- Must have a valid chauffeur’s license or ability to obtain one within 1 month of employment and also maintain a good driving record.
- Lift 50 pounds over their head repeatedly.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the maintenance foreman or their designee.
- Effectively communicate verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and have the ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Must be able to work well under pressure and negotiate conflict situations as they arise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to reach, climb, bend, stand, and walk. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders, as well as to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift, move, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTALCONDITIONS
The employee will occasionally work in conditions of extreme heat or cold.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTEmployment will be on an at-will basis for 12 months with two weeks vacation, beginning July 1, or from the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. Each maintenance employee will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.
Eight and one-half hours (including a 30 minute non-paid lunch period) will constitute a workday. The Chief Human Resources Officer will establish a definite daily schedule. The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.
End of the year performance evaluations will occur annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
