Robotics, Systems Engineer
The Automation Engineer will lead the design, deployment, and optimization of automation and robotics to improve efficiency and optimize flow in a warehousing environment. A main focus will be the implementation of autonomous mobile vehicles (AMVs) and/or autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to support material movement, streamline order fulfillment, and enable scalable operations. The engineer will ensure seamless integration of automation solutions with existing systems, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and safety protocols.
This position is based at a regional operational facility west of St. Louis
Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
Essential Functions/ Key Responsibilities
Automation & Robotics
- Design, deploy, and support AMR/AMV solutions for material transport, replenishment, and order picking
- Optimize fleet management, navigation, and system performance
Warehouse Optimization
- Analyze workflows to identify bottlenecks and labor-intensive processes suitable for automation
- Apply lean principles to improve efficiency and throughput
Simulation & Modeling
- Develop and validate simulation models for AMR routing, traffic management, and throughput analysis prior to deployment
Systems Integration
- Integrate AMRs with WMS, IoT-enabled devices, and APIs to enable real-time visibility and control
Safety & Compliance
- Establish safety standards and operational guidelines for shared human–robot environments
- Ensure compliance with applicable ISO/ANSI standards and local regulations
- Monitor automation performance metrics such as utilization, cycle time, and error rates
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on data insights
Project Management & Documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align automation initiatives with cost, quality, and service-level objectives
- Develop system documentation including architecture diagrams, SOPs, and maintenance plans
Quality & Reliability
- Support quality objectives by troubleshooting issues and implementing preventive maintenance strategies
