JOB TITLE: Maintenance and Custodial Clerk

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance and Director of Custodial Services

FLSA: Non-Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to assist with the smooth and efficient operation of the Maintenance and Custodial departments in order to maintain district buildings that are healthy and safe environments for students and staff.

Qualification Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a high level of customer service skills, competence with Google Suite and Microsoft Office software, be able to multitask, and have excellent communication skills.

Essential Duties
  • Greet all visitors, determine their needs, check appointments, and notify the appropriate administrator.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct them to the appropriate person.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Work with substitute custodians to fill absences and vacancies of full and part-time custodians to ensure building custodial runs are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Type and copy custodial memos and training packets.
  • Schedule custodian candidate interviews.
  • Keep an inventory of custodial uniforms organized.
  • Track maintenance of custodial and maintenance vehicles.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all fire inspection reports, backflow reports, and elevator inspections.
  • Maintain up-to-date maps of school district properties.
  • Manage daily work orders, including, but not limited to, creating work orders and status updates of work orders as needed.
  • Schedule extra district-roaming security as needed (i.e. Halloween, End of the Year).
Additional Duties
  • Effectively communicate, in both verbal and written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff-related information.
Mental Demands

Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and perform in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required. The employee will occasionally lift, carry, move, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.

Terms of Employment

Employment will be on an at-will basis for 12 months with two weeks vacation, beginning July 1, or from the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. Each 12‑month clerk will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.

Eight hours will constitute a workday. The Chief Human Resources Officer will establish a definite daily schedule. The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.

Evaluation

End-of-the-year performance evaluations will occur annually per the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of support staff personnel.
