Description
The Senior Research Associate, CDI will work under the guidance of Member Scientist, Assistant Member or Manager, Associate Member to prepare data for presentations, progress reports and actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. This role will also work independently and take responsibility in the development and execution of study procedures to successfully advance the research projects. Additionally, this role serves as the primary point of contact for oncologists and clinical stakeholders, facilitating meetings with clinical collaborators to align study goals, recruitment strategies, and implementation plans.
The Sr Research Associate communicates study progress, data updates, and findings to clinical teams in a clear and actionable manner, and collaborates with clinical departments to integrate research protocols into real-world care settings.
The Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI was established by Hackensack Meridian Health as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 39 labs, 200+ scientists and allied personnel supported by 78 NIH and DoD grants and more than 87 other grants and contracts.
Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, rheumatology and pharmacology.
- Conducts research and/or laboratory tasks and experiments under general supervision.
- Collects, analyzes and interprets data.
- Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
- Recommends changes to experimental protocols, design and documentation.
- Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher level staff.
- Provides coaching and/or mentoring.
- Presents findings at national conferences.
- Publishes results in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Leads, drives and manages projects, including but not limited to communicating with collaborators
- Supports grant reporting and writing.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
Required
- M.D. or PhD. from an accredited medical school or graduate level institution in a scientific field or other relevant area of study.
- Minimum of 4 or more years of experience of post-doctoral research or other applicable research experience in a qualified laboratory in academia or industry.
- Minimum of two peer-reviewed publications from prior work experience.
- Experience conducting and designing research projects.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
- Advanced knowledge of lab specific methodologies and experimental procedures.
- Ability to conduct independent research.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
