The Assistant Research Grants Analyst provides pre- and post-award support for the organization's grants program. This position is responsible for providing support in the preparation of all aspects of post award grant and clinical trial reporting which includes the preparation of budgets for grants/clinical trial applications, general ledger grant/clinical trial revenue and expense analysis, submission of monthly, quarterly, and/or annual grant/clinical trial expense reports, assisting finance department during year-end audit and Uniform Guidance audit, and other requirements as outlined in detail below.
The Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI was established by Hackensack Meridian Health as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 39 labs, 200+ scientists and allied personnel supported by 78 NIH and DoD grants and more than 87 other grants and contracts.
Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, rheumatology and pharmacology.
- Provides grant-related review and analysis.
- Supports the grants team and supports their daily activities with grant functions including effort certification, procurement and journalizing costs.
- Maintains Excel spreadsheets to track dollar commitments to grants initiatives as well as funds for support of the program to run queries on federal databases.
- Coordinates paperwork and communications with participating investigators and NIH scientific program and grants management personnel. Reviews paperwork submitted by the lab and files it in accordance with the details of the grant requirements. Communicates with the lab regarding balances, purchases and efforts on projects.
- Gathers data and enters onto spreadsheets including literature reviews and creation of budget scenario.
- Assists program directors in the tracking of budgets, progress, and development of milestones.
- Develops fiscal spreadsheets for tracking budgets for Division research programs and provides quarterly summaries to evaluate spending patterns.
- Monitors and verifies accuracy of data using a variety of source documents; as problems arise, works with staff to research and analyze records, identifies errors and performs corrections.
- Synthesizes information from multiple sources and prepares reports to be used internally or as part of external review committees.
- Develops spreadsheets to support coordination of activities between various departments and organizations.
- Constructs summaries to be used in analyzing spending projections for managing and appropriating purposes.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or a related area and 1 year of experience in grants & contracts or in a related area; or equivalent 3 years of experience in grants & contracts or in a related area.
- Excellent project management, analytical, organizational, and computer skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel spreadsheets.
- Budgeting and/or accounting principles and grants administration.
- Project cost analysis.
- Excellent communication skills.
Minimum rate of $30.45 Hourly. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.
