Orthopedics - Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (full-time) – Henry Ford Warren
Location: 11800 12 Mile Road, Warren, MI 48093
Inpatient/Outpatient: Clinic and First Assist in OR.
Case Load: Primarily adult but may include pediatric trauma or sports medicine with growth.
Position OverviewAscension Medical Group – Henry Ford Health System is seeking a full‑time Orthopedic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to support a general orthopedic surgeon with a focus on adult reconstruction and upper extremity. The role includes full‑time clinic responsibilities and first assist in the OR, with surgical days at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, HF Warren, and HF 23 Mile Surgery Center.
Candidates must be credentialed to first assist in the OR (PA‑C preferred). Occasional call coverage is required for practice patients.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated APP to help grow a busy, high‑quality orthopedic practice on a hospital campus. While new graduates will be considered, some orthopedic or surgical experience is preferred due to the role’s level of independence.
ScheduleFull Days, Monday – Friday, with some flexibility if longer OR days occur.
Weekend requirementNo regularly scheduled weekend commitment.
Call requirementOccasional call coverage for practice patients.
Operating RoomsHF Warren, HF 23 Mile Surgery Center and HF Macomb Hospital.
Responsibilities- Provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician.
- Obtains patient history and performs assessment.
- Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.
- Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.
- Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
- Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.
- BLS Provider credential from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date.
- American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card accepted upon hire; renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA.
- Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date.
- Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date.
- Advanced Life Support credential from the AHA preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant in Orthopedic Surgery preferred.
- NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA).
- NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan.
- PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application).
- National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- DEA/CSL required through credentialing.
- DEA – NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs.
- OR credentials (Orthopedics preferred).
- OR experience, strongly preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
