Job Title:Mammography Technologist
Job Summary
The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality mammographic imaging procedures to assist in the detection and diagnosis of breast disease. This role requires technical expertise, attention to patient care, and adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities- Perform screening and diagnostic mammography procedures in accordance with established protocols and physician orders
- Prepare and position patients correctly to obtain optimal imaging while ensuring comfort and dignity
- Operate mammography equipment and related imaging systems safely and effectively
- Review images for quality and completeness prior to submission for interpretation
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Follow radiation safety principles and infection control standards at all times
- Communicate clearly with patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns
- Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care
- Ensure proper care, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of mammography equipment
- Comply with federal, state, and organizational regulations, including MQSA standards
- Participate in quality assurance, continuing education, and departmental improvement initiatives
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or related field
- Certification in Mammography from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or eligibility within required timeframe
- Current state licensure as applicable
- Knowledge of breast anatomy, imaging techniques, and radiation protection principles
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist patients with positioning
- Manual dexterity to operate imaging equipment
- Ability to lift, push, or support patients as needed
- Work performed in a clinical healthcare environment
- May include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts depending on organizational needs
