Job Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Interventional Technologist specializes in performing invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures to assist in the evaluation of pathological conditions as prescribed by a physician. This role supports a comprehensive stroke facility and requires experience with neurological cases.
Certifications & Licensure
- BLS (Healthcare Provider) required.
- ARRT Registered, with advanced certification in one of the following:
- ARRT with Vascular Radiography experience preferred.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Ongoing continuing medical education required.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Interventional Radiology experience (required).
- Neurological case experience required.
- Experience in a comprehensive stroke facility preferred.
- Strong sterile technique skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Explain procedures to patients and prepare patients for examinations.
- Obtain and review relevant patient medical history and clinical data.
- Prepare contrast media, medications, and IV solutions.
- Assist the Radiologist with complex invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, equipment, monitors, injectors, and imaging systems.
- Ensure adequate inventory of supplies (needles, catheters, etc.) and replenish as needed.
- Assess patient condition before, during, and after procedures.
- Operate imaging equipment to obtain accurate diagnostic information.
- Perform radiation protection and ALARA techniques.
- Complete PACS image review and ensure accurate image delivery.
- Complete RIS documentation including study start, end, and indexing.
- Perform quality assurance procedures and required documentation.
- Assist with room setup, physician scrubbing, post-procedure cleanup, and 3D imaging.
- Utilize independent judgment for imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety.
- Support training of new staff or students as assigned.
