Job responsibilities- Supports all IH Industrial Hygienist and Manager levels above this position in conducting more complex building science and/or industrial hygiene & safety assessments
- Supports IH Industrial Hygienist and Manager levels above this position in performing the preparation and collection of samples and data, including setting up equipment and documenting observations
- Analyzes previous building science and/or industrial hygiene & safety surveys to determine if additional sampling is required or to prepare scope of services.
- Independently performs field assessments where problems encountered are generally well‑understood and easily identified. May direct project teams, assigning tasks based on member’s skills and experience level.
- Collects environmental and personal samples for analysis, and prepares samples for shipment to laboratory for analysis.
- Maintains, calibrates, and operates building science and industrial hygiene instruments and equipment.
- Compiles and provides summary of analytical data as well as organizes data for reports, and drafts full report with Findings/Conclusions and Recommendations.
- Assists with implementing strategies, IH standards, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment requirements that aim to control and minimize workplace hazards.
- Performs air sampling, noise level monitoring, and other environmental testing activities that measure the concentration of pollutants or hazardous agents in the workplace and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Maintains working knowledge of state and federal regulations.
- Travels to client sites, including overnight stays periodically as needed.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
- Communicates effectively with Senior Project/Project Managers, staff, clients and contractors.
- Follows Atlas directives and standards.
- Maintains a safe working environment.
- Has a High School Diploma or bachelor’s degree (preferred) in environmental science, environmental studies, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, public health, project management, construction, or related field and 3-5 years of experience as an industrial hygiene technician.
- Has a valid driver’s license and meets qualifications to successfully complete Drug‑Alcohol Testing. Must be able to wear a respirator, safety harness, and other personal protective equipment as needed.
- Able/willing to conduct asbestos, lead, mold remediation monitoring projects, asbestos, lead, mold surveys, and/or exposure monitoring and specialized industrial hygiene projects.
- Asbestos, Lead, and 40‑hr HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- Can work outside of normal business hours on occasion.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Background in Industrial Hygiene and Building Science related practices.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and creative problem‑solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of billable time, project, and office budgeting.
- Strong problem‑solving, workload management, and organizational skills with limited supervision.
- Professional, self‑motivated, team player with strong collaboration skills.
- Ability to climb stairs/ladders and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Experience working within and understanding state environmental regulations and guidelines.
- Ability for travel overnight occasionally.
- State of Michigan Licensed Asbestos Inspector (Preferred).
- State of Michigan Licensed Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor (Preferred).
