Hybrid Role - Tues. & Thurs. in Novato
Role: Assignment Role, Employee Relations, People Function
Reporting to the Vice President, People, Technical Operations & Corporate Groups. The Employee Relations Director is responsible for execution of the Employee Relations Strategy across Bio Marin, including Technical Operations, Research & Development, Commercial and Corporate Functions.
The role provides strategic and operational guidance on enterprise-wide employee relations activities, policies, processes, and procedures pertaining to Bio Marin US locations. This role requires employee relations expertise, judgment, analytics, interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills. It supports business leaders to handle workplace concerns, co-create action plans, and provide interventions as necessary. It will identify opportunities to address recurring employee relations issues proactively and preventatively and provide guidance and coaching to managers at all levels.
It will stay attuned to organizational and operational changes across Bio Marin locations in the US to identify potential employee relations risks and develop proactive plans.
- Working with the People Partners to ensure employee relations issues are addressed in a robust, consistent, legal manner with appropriate guidance for both employees and the company. This role works closely with Legal and Compliance.
- Overseeing the management of employee relations processes to enable effective conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Conducting, overseeing, and assisting with employee relation issues to manage concerns and grievances and to identify and implement appropriate action and accountability practices.
- Identifying a fair and inclusive process for employee concerns or grievances, including leading fact-finding, due diligence, and investigations to ensure adherence to Bio Marin s policies and practices.
- Staying attuned to organizational changes to identify potential ER risks and develop proactive plans.
- Providing guidance and coaching to managers of all levels to address employee behavior and performance.
- Providing guidance and assisting with development and delivery of performance feedback or action plans including corrective/disciplinary actions.
- Overseeing documentation techniques and maintaining accurate, confidential records regarding all reported matters and fact-finding.
- Interpreting and applying understanding of employee policies, employment law, and other regulations to provide ER guidance.
- Maintaining integrity when managing ER issues and reported matters.
- Experience of alternative dispute resolution, specifically workplace mediation.
- Collaborating with Legal, Compliance and Payroll to support the business.
- Guiding leaders to deal with investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, and sickness in line with policy principles.
- Providing insight to develop employment-related policies and procedures.
- Supporting training initiatives and management toolkits for leaders.
- Proactively helping leaders manage people issues promptly using best practices and policy principles.
- Keeping up to date with employment case law and regulatory changes.
- Ensuring ER cases are recorded, tracked, and proactively managed to conclusion or hand off to the Strategic Business Partner.
- 10 years of experience in Employee Relations.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and agile environment.
- Strong strategic, negotiation and diplomacy skills.
- Strong understanding of state and federal US labor relations laws.
- Ability to interpret and apply applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
