Childrens Deputy Home Manager – Care Tech
Location: Nottingham
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £15.29 – £16.01 per hour, plus £30 per sleep in as required
Annual leave: 224 hours paid leave per year
Work schedule: Rota based, mixture of long shift and 9‑5 shifts, 365 days a year including public holidays

Main Purpose Of The JobAssist the manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the Statement of Purpose; deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager; support and manage staff to enable them to meet the needs of children and young people; undertake direct work with children as appropriate; manage child protection concerns and complaints; partner with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people;
offer supervision and support to senior staff in line with National Minimum Standards.
- Basic hourly rate £15.29 - £16.01, plus £30 per sleep in (where required)
- 224 hours paid annual leave per annum
- Rota based work, mixture of long shift and 9‑5 shifts
- 365 day a year job, including Christmas, New Year and public holidays
To meet the needs of children through:
- Ensuring each young person has an allocated key worker
- Ensuring staff are aware of each child’s placement plan and implementation responsibilities
- Attending childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes
- Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as appropriate role model
- Consulting young people about the quality of care they receive
- Maintaining accurate written records of logs, continuation sheets and files for monitoring and evaluation
- Working with parents, carers and other professionals to safeguard and promote welfare
- Chairing children’s meetings and facilitating consultation with young people generally
- Acting as appropriate adult at PACE interviews
To manage a staff team through:
- Providing managerial control and direction of staff duties and responsibilities
- Assisting with recruitment, retention and induction training for new staff
- Supervising new starters during probation
- Balancing control with staff decision‑making opportunities
- Planning shifts and ensuring smooth running during duty
- Providing consultation and informal advice for day‑to‑day matters
- Offering 1:1 supervision in line with National Minimum Standards
- Identifying and developing individual training and performance needs
- Conducting staff appraisals and addressing conduct/competence issues
- Investigating disciplinary matters when required
- Assisting the Registered Manager with personal and professional development through delegated duties
- Contributing to team and staff meetings for communication and development
- Ensuring staff comply with Home policies, procedures and National Minimum Standards
To develop systems ensuring effective allocation of resources:
- Maintaining adequate staffing levels to meet Home needs
- Managing budgets effectively and monitoring finances (petty cash, attendance records)
- Ensuring company vehicles are clean and maintained
- Monitoring and maintaining building fabric, fixtures, amenities and grounds
To promote the efficient and effective operation of the home:
- Developing routine care processes with young people and staff
- Clarifying expectations for maintaining a clean, orderly Home
- Creating rotas that fit children’s needs with proper handovers
- Implementing appropriate reporting and recording systems to meet standards
- Managing all administrative issues and reporting weekly management information to HQ
General responsibilities:
- Assist Registered Manager in implementing all aspects of the Statement of Purpose
- Collaborate with front line staff to design and evaluate service improvements
- Deputise for the Registered Manager as required
- Handle company vehicle management per policy
- Work on rota basis aligned with young people’s needs
- Allocate resources appropriately, maintain accurate financial records
- Receive supervision and take responsibility for personal development
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks directed by the Registered Manager
