The University of Nottingham seeks applications from highly skilled, self‑motivated researchers for a post‑doctoral position in Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing (CSAM). The post‑doctoral researcher will be working on the UK’s highest pressure CSAM cell to study processing‑microstructure‑properties relationships of novel in‑house manufactured metallic powders for additive manufacturing through a range of approaches involving finite element modelling for particle impact and multiple layer growth, computational fluid dynamics of the nozzles, additive manufacturing robot programming through slicer and characterisation of the deposits through EBSD, TKD and TEM.
Responsibilities- Work on the UK’s highest pressure CSAM cell and the UK’s only high‑power, high‑efficiency axial injection Suspension Plasma Spray (SPS) system.
- Perform finite element modelling for particle impact and multiple layer growth.
- Conduct computational fluid dynamics studies of the nozzles.
- Program additive manufacturing robots through slicer software.
- Characterise deposits using EBSD, TKD and TEM.
- Publish high‑quality research papers and contribute to the research team’s scientific output.
36.25 hours per week; part‑time (minimum 20 hours) and job‑share arrangements are possible.
Initial fixed‑term contract of 12 months.
