Research Technician (fixed-term) – Fungal Biology / Medical Mycology

This is a full-time fixed-term role available immediately for 36 months. The post is part of a multinational Wellcome Trust award involving collaborative partners in the UK and South Africa to understand the biology of adaptation in fungal pathogens, focusing on mating and gene flow of Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans and the impact of climate change on fungal evolution.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support for research projects, including planning and conducting experimental laboratory work and generating data.
- Ensure provision of necessary reagents and growth media and manage record keeping, safety, data analysis, and equipment maintenance.
- Provide technical supervision and training and contribute to general laboratory support and management.
- Minimum of an HNC in a relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications; a BSc or MSc in Biology, Microbiology or a related field is desirable.
- Experience with microbial culture of yeasts and filamentous fungi, and familiarity with molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction, electrophoresis, PCR).
- Desirable: experience of genomic and statistical analysis.
- Note:
the role is not suitable for individuals with immunodeficiencies due to work with opportunistic pathogens; safe working practices will minimise risk.
Salary £29,740 to £36,446 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
