Role Summary
The Deputy Sister (Band 6) will act as Deputy to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit. The post holder will lead, manage, and serve as a role model to ensure high standards of patient care and a supportive working environment.
Key Responsibilities- Act as deputy to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and take charge of the unit on a regular basis.
- Maintain high standards of care and a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Provide direct clinical care and support the implementation of clinical and non‑clinical governance.
- Support a cohort of Band 5 nurses by conducting yearly appraisals and ensuring staff training is up to date.
- Be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- RN, RSCN or RN Child qualified nurse with substantial experience in Paediatric Critical Care as a Band 5.
- Recognised Critical Care qualification and Mentors & Assessors qualification.
- Experience leading a team, deputising and coordinating care on the unit in the absence of a Band 7 Sister.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

- Opportunity to work in a 14‑bed Paediatric Critical Care Unit consisting of 8 ICU and 6 HDU beds.
