Job Summary We are currently looking to recruit individuals to join our friendly, dynamic Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse team on ward E39 in the Nottingham Children s Hospital. The deputy sister role on E39 is a diverse and integral role within the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will be part of the senior nursing team within the ward and will work with your colleagues, other professionals within the children s hospital and the wider MDT to provide safe, effective, and efficient family centred care.
You will also support the ward manager providing leadership and assurance for the ward, ensuring quality standards are achieved and maintained.
Main duties of the job
Ward E39 is a 15 bedded ward where we care for children and young people with oncological, haematological and rheumatological conditions. The Band 6 registered nurse role is essential to safe and effective running of the ward area as the role entails delivery of direct patient care as well as ensuring that consistently safe and effective care is delivered to patients and their families this incorporates the provision of emotional support.
In addition, the band 6 role provides leadership and management support to the Ward Sister and ward team to ensure safe and effective running of the ward on a daily basis. The band 6 nurse within paediatric oncology provides specialist and expert knowledge to ensure the safe delivery of complex patient care on a 24/7 basis.
The appropriate candidate would need to be chemotherapy trained and would need to have experience of managing the ward on a daily basis. An oncology course is essential and APLS/EPALS provider would be desirable for this post.

The post holder will act as Deputy to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. He/she will be required to:
- Act as the deputy to the ward sister/charge nurse, regularly taking charge of the ward and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.
- Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
- Work flexibly as a member of the ward team and in support of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved.
- The post holder is required to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
