Associate – Social Care / Public Law – Nottingham – Up to £50,000
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established public sector team specialising in social care and public law matters. The role sits within a growing and highly regarded practice advising predominantly local authority clients on a wide range of complex and sensitive issues.
You will be part of a collaborative and high-performing team, with access to strong central resources and specialist support. There is also the opportunity to be seconded into client legal teams from time to time, providing valuable exposure to in-house public sector environments.
The role involves advising local authority clients on a broad range of social care and public law matters. This includes statutory and administrative law advice, judicial review work (both advisory and contentious) and regulatory issues within the social care sector. You will advise on compliance with statutory and non-statutory guidance, support the development of policies, procedures and training and work on complex portfolios of social care matters such as age assessments, ordinary residence disputes, capacity issues, inherent jurisdiction, safeguarding, charging and Court of Protection work including DOLS.
The practice advises primarily local authority and wider public sector clients, working closely with in‑house legal and operational teams. The role involves building trusted relationships with clients at all levels and supporting them on strategically important and often high‑profile matters within the social care arena.
Candidate- Qualified solicitor or legal executive with experience in social care and/or public law
- Experience advising local authorities on statutory or administrative law issues
- Familiarity with judicial review, Court of Protection or regulatory social care work
- Strong drafting skills and attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to work with clients at all levels
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and work under pressure
- Willingness to supervise and support junior team members
- Collaborative approach and interest in practice and business development
- Interest in using technology and legal AI tools to support delivery
