Geldards LLP is a leading regional law firm with offices in Cardiff, Derby, Nottingham and London. We are currently looking for a Solicitor to join our Commercial Property (Networks) team to assist with its varied and quality workload from a diverse client base. This role is based on our Nottingham office.

The role will involve assisting the Commercial Property (Networks) team in providing legal guidance and advice to existing clients and engaging in new business development activities. You will work to support the core Commercial Property (Networks) in the provision of a high‑quality legal service to clients.

Responsibilities
  • Working as a key member of a large team to deliver deadline‑driven completion outputs.
  • Dealing with complex, high‑profile transactions.
  • Proactively assisting colleagues with matter queries and intervening where required.
  • Gaining confidence and trust of clients and colleagues.
  • Being a quality control champion.
  • Acting with honesty and integrity, as stipulated in the SRA Handbook and Code of Conduct.
  • Maintaining the level of competence and knowledge to practice efficiently by keeping abreast with changes and developments in the law.
  • Identifying, interpreting and applying the relevant legal principles.
  • Analysing problems, highlighting areas of risk and thinking critically to resolve issues.
  • Dealing promptly with correspondence and client enquiries.
  • Achieving chargeable hours and financial targets.
  • Providing expert legal advice in a timely and cost‑effective manner and in accordance with professional standards, compliance and internal quality requirements.
  • Dealing courteously and promptly with any instructions or queries arising.
  • Developing and maintaining good client relationships and enhancing the Firm’s client base by effective liaison with existing and new clients.
  • Participating in marketing activities as requested, including attending seminars, client training or events, writing articles for publication, etc.
  • Training and supervising paralegals, acting as a mentor and ensuring their continuous learning development and progression.
  • Checking relevant legal documentation of paralegals relating to transactions.
  • Maximising the Firm’s potential to cross‑sell services by identifying appropriate opportunities.
  • Contributing to tenders for new work in conjunction with other fee earners and Business Development team.
  • Actively monitoring and reviewing own development needs to ensure that professional skills are developed, up to date and comply with Solicitors Regulation Authority requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and post.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Qualified Solicitor or MCILEX / FCILEX with interest in utilities work.
  • Strong commercial property background.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads, prioritise workloads and work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with both clients and all department levels across the Firm.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team as well as using own initiative.
  • Ability to provide support and guidance to junior members of the team, with the assistance of senior members.
  • Project a professional image at all times.
