What you'll be doing

In an ever-evolving landscape of data, it's important that we understand, cleanse and utilize our data to ensure its quality, integrity and veracity. Data is one of our greatest assets and the role of data governance and data quality is fundamental in driving our strategy and helping shape the future of our business. To support our data management vision, we are looking for someone to join our Data Excellence team to lead the implementation of data governance principles for key data domains across the business.

This role will report to the Head of Data Excellence in the Data & Digital area. You will work cross functionally, using your experience and expertise to deliver a step change in data governance and data quality across the organisation. This is a hugely rewarding role, with good exposure to a wide range of senior stakeholders across numerous business functions.

Key responsibilities
  • Establish hierarchies and lead the implementation of a business-wide Data Governance framework for your key data domains, with clear timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Engage with Data Owners, Data Custodians, and Data Stewards to ensure they are onboarded onto the Data Governance programme. We must train and support them adequately to meet data governance requirements, which will improve data quality in their business area.
  • Log and monitor data incidents and issues and work with Data Stewards on root cause analysis and remediation activities.
  • Maintain the centralised data inventory to ensure the business rules, standards and procedures for your department are up to date.
  • Be the main consultant and initial reviewer of all Data Impact Assessments for your departments, ensuring the business is compliant with all Boots Group and regulatory standards and procedures.
  • Work with partners such as Legal, Audit, Data Protection, Records Management and Information Security to ensure we have trusted data foundations in place
  • Be the subject matter expert and main point of contact for new and existing business areas/projects that use your data domains.
  • You will advise on data management and compliance, driving the importance, alignment, and cultural change to treat data as a business-wide asset.
  • Lead the agenda at Data Governance Forums to ensure that we set and monitor data quality Goals, map data lineage, and prioritise backlogs to improve data issues.
  • Implement recommendations following data analysis that highlights issues or trends in data quality.
  • Be an advocate in everything you do and inspire and coach others, with your experience with all things relating to data.
What you'll need to have (our must-haves)
  • Preferable background in Data Governance with exposure to data protection, audit and policy principles.
  • Willing to become certified with DAMA.
  • Passionate about data with attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Manage complex, competing demands and multiple partners.
  • Have excellent communication skills and high impact and influencing skills to promote your ideas and move others toward a common vision or goal.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, Omni-channel environment with the ability to see the bigger picture, get to the heart of the problem and to drive the right decisions at pace.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across the business and IT.
  • Able to articulate complex data issues to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Some experience of working within a retail business environment would be an advantage.
Rewards designed for you
  • Boots Retirement Savings Plan
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Generous employee discounts
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay and gift card for anyone expecting or adopting a child
  • Flexible benefits scheme including option to buy additional holiday, discounted gym membership, life assurance, activity passes and much more.
