NHS Supply Chain is recruiting a Master Data Modernisation Lead to play a pivotal role in shaping how master data underpins our future operating model. This is a strategic, business‑led position for a senior data professional who can bridge the gap between business priorities and enabling technology — acting as the conduit between data, technology and operational delivery. Working in close partnership with value stream leads, technology teams, delivery partners and data specialists, you will define and own the master data management strategy and transition roadmap.

You will lead the identification and resolution of current master data pain points, ensuring that people, process and tooling requirements are understood holistically and designed to support a modern, scalable data landscape.

This role is critical to ensuring that master data discovery, design and governance activities are aligned to wider modernisation priorities, risks are actively managed, and the target master data operating model is assured and implemented effectively. You will combine strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery, translating complex data concepts into clear, actionable outcomes that deliver tangible business value. If you are passionate about modernising legacy data models, influencing senior stakeholders and enabling better decision‑making through trusted data, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at the heart of the NHS.

Responsibilities
  • Develop the master data management strategy and transition roadmap
  • Identify and address all existing master data management pain points
  • Capture and deliver the master data operating model (people, process and tools) requirements holistically and effectively
  • Align data discovery and design work with modernisation priorities
  • Manage all master data management risks appropriately
  • Assure and implement the proposed target master data operating model effectively
Benefits
  • Hybrid working opportunities, giving you the flexibility to work collaboratively in the office and remotely.
  • Annual bonus schemes, long‑service awards, and VIP colleague awards.
  • 27 days holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase an additional 5 days.
  • In‑house training, support and access to external qualifications to maximise your potential.
  • 1 day of paid well‑being leave and free access to the 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Generous pension scheme (with us contributing 12% when you contribute 6%).
  • Flexible Benefits Scheme covering Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection, Health Cash Plan, Dental Insurance and additional pension contributions.
  • 2 days of paid volunteering leave.
  • Access to many discounts from the Blue Light Card to NHS Discounts.
Skills & Experience
  • Significant stewardship experience managing master and reference data in a modern ERP solution.
  • Expertise and demonstrable experience in modernising a legacy master data operating model.
  • Significant experience working in a complex data landscape.
  • Good understanding of logical data modelling and the contextual data analysis and definition required to support this activity.
  • Proven problem‑solving and process improvement skills and ability to define creative solutions to meet business needs in complex situations.
  • Strong business focus with demonstrable ability to form effective working relationships, be resourceful and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and briefing skills.
  • Pragmatic and enabling skills balanced with a strategic focus and mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation and continuous improvement. Ability to inspire.
