Preceptorship Midwife

Overview

Based within the Family Health Directorate the post holder will be a proactive role-model, who supports the practice and development of our newly qualified midwives (NQM). The post holder will have a visible presence on both campuses and within the community setting.

With compassionate leadership, guidance and direction to NQM, supporting as they transition student to midwife, to develop and enhance their clinical competence, and confidence, making sure that the provision of high quality, evidence based clinical care is embedded in their everyday practice and received on every occasion by the people who use the local maternity service.

The post holder will be required to evaluate and implement the development of programmes and clinical skills competencies including the preceptorship programme to ensure that they meet the needs of both the staff and the service.

You will be responsible for the continuous monitoring of the achievement and suitability of required competencies, for NQMs, building supportive individualised development plans in partnership with the identified staff member as appropriate to achieve specifically identified outcomes.

• Support the practice and development of newly qualified midwives (NQMs).
• Provide compassionate leadership, guidance and direction to NQMs to support their transition from student to midwife.
• Ensure high quality, evidence-based clinical care is embedded in everyday practice and delivered to patients using the local maternity service.
• Evaluate and implement development programmes and clinical skills competencies, including the preceptorship programme.
• Monitor achievement and suitability of competencies for NQMs.
• Develop individualised development plans in partnership with staff to achieve identified outcomes.
