Clinical Lead

Cherry ward is an 18 bedded mixed sex inpatient ward for the assessment and treatment of clients with functional type mental health problems, including depression, anxiety and psychotic disorders.

As a Clinical Lead your role is to improve and maintain clinical and professional practice while supporting the ward manager. A key part of the role is to support band 5 Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants on the ward, leading on and supporting clinical and managerial supervision.

You will be required to carry out audits and monitor and improve the standards on the ward, and to action and implement changes where necessary to improve patient care.

The Clinical Lead may also cover the Senior Nurse role across the Highbury site on a rotational basis. This involves overseeing the Highbury site and managing any issues that may arise out of hours, including fire alarms, staffing issues, sudden death, damage to hospital property and other unforeseen emergencies.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, forward-thinking, motivated Clinical Lead with experience or interest in working with our patient group. You will have sound knowledge and understanding of mental health, person-centred care, physical health and social needs relating to this patient group.

We are seeking to recruit someone with the knowledge and skills to provide clinical leadership to the ward's multidisciplinary team. You will be a visible point of contact to junior staff requiring clinical guidance, expertise and support in the delivery of high-quality, person-centred and compassionate care.

It is essential that you are able to work flexible hours over a 24-hour period, 7 days a week, on a 12-hour shift pattern. This post also includes Senior Nurse duties at Highbury.

Applicants should have excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, be able to work alongside the ward manager, and have the personal characteristics to assist in leading a strong, experienced and supportive team in a challenging and rewarding environment. Applicants must display initiative, possess mature judgement and maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with patients, carers, colleagues and visitors.

Applicants must have at least 12 months experience at Band 5 and have completed their preceptorship.

You will be required to apply a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism to this work.
