Specialist Dietitian Oncology - Rotational

Are you a dietitian with broad range of clinical experience and an interest in working within oncology? We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity for a Permanent 1.0 W.T.E. (37.5 hours/week) Specialist Oncology Dietitian on the City Campus at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust. The post will be part of a rotational programme between General oncology, Haematology and Head and Neck/Upper GI services.

Main

duties of the job

The successful candidate will manage a caseload within the pathways of their oncology rotation, providing dietetic advice and treatment to a shared caseload of inpatient and outpatients. You will support complex nutritional interventions, as well as nutrition support and enteral feeding, so experience in these areas would be beneficial. You will be involved in MDT and dietetic‑led clinics as well as training and education for patients and healthcare professionals within the service.

The dietetic team have become established as core members of the multi‑disciplinary team, working collaboratively with consultants and specialist nurses to deliver high quality nutritional care to patients.

With the support of Clinical Lead Dietitians, there is the opportunity to be involved in dietetic audit, service development and research, alongside potential opportunities to work and gain experience across all Oncology services at NUH (General Oncology, Haematology, Head & Neck, Upper GI). You will need to have excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and the ability to manage your own time and workload within a supportive team.

This job will require you to work with inpatients, therefore you will be required to wear the appropriate level of PPE.

Acts as a source of expertise on Dietetics and Nutrition for staff, carers and patients including the provision of education and training. Works as a member of a departmental team with the support of the appropriate team leader and clinical leads.

  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Member of the BDA
  • Validated courses
Experience
  • Experience as a dietitian
  • Able to apply additional depth of knowledge gained through experience to specialist area
  • Experience in any of the specialist areas
Analytical and judgement
  • Able to overcome barriers to understanding.
  • Excellent verbal, non‑verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training.
  • Able to work as an integral member of dietetic and multi‑professional teams, building relationships with patients/carers, and other staff
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information and respond to people who are distressed or anxious
  • Able to overcome difficulties in communication, including language barriers, and adapt approach to varying situations.
Communication
  • Able to communicate with a range of individuals on complex matters
  • Using professional judgement to solve problems and make decisions where there are a range of options
Planning and organisation skills
  • Able to plan and organise own workload, including daily tasks and longer term strategic planning, despite interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Able to plan and organise the work of allocated student dietitians
Physical
  • Able to carry out anthropometric measurements accurately and use relevant equipment
  • Able to use a computer keyboard and relevant computer programmes.
