Overview

An opportunity has arisen to join our senior nursing team on Bestwood Ward, City Campus within HCOP as a Band 7 Ward Manager. Applicants should have Professional Registration in Nursing and preferably Therapy, with a passion to inspire and motivate others to provide high quality, safe, patient-centred care.

Bestwood Ward is based on the City Hospital Campus of the St Francis Unit. Our older adult patients come through the Frailty Pathway of QMC and are deemed medically safe for discharge. We are a unique ward where nursing staff contribute to the delivery of a re-enablement nursing model of care with older adult patients. By empowering patients, giving permission, and providing opportunities to participate in their physical and social environment, we can improve their skills, confidence and independence.

You will work closely with the nursing team and our Therapy colleagues to improve clinical outcomes by focusing on reducing dependency on carers, decreasing hospital length of stay, and improving the patient experience during their hospital stay. There is a strong focus on supporting safe and timely discharges and preventing readmissions.

• As the Ward Manager you will be in charge of the ward, ensuring that the standards and quality of care, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.
• Be an effective leader and role model; provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of clinical and non-clinical governance.
• Work flexibly as a member of the ward team to support and ensure standards are maintained, evaluated, and improved where necessary.
• Demonstrate the ability to inspire staff and implement changes, embedding good practice into the culture of the department.
• Work as part of the multidisciplinary team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support service development.
• Maintain excellent organisation and time management with problem-solving aptitude; be flexible to long days across the week within a fast-growing and exciting specialty setting.

• Professional Registration in Nursing; ideally with Therapy qualification.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and support the development of the service.
• Excellent clinical knowledge and skills, with willingness to work long days as required.
