An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent member of staff to join our team as a Quality Risk and Safety Sister / Charge Nurse role across the neonatal service. The role focusses on service improvement, patient safety and quality as well as leadership and operational responsibility for clinical care delivery.

In this role you will work across the neonatal service as part of the senior nursing team providing 7 day senior nurse cover whilst leading, guiding and supporting the implementation of clinical standards and quality initiatives in line with the Trust’s clinical risk management framework.

Main duties of the job

As a nurse leader you will be a motivated innovator, passionate about patient safety and quality. You will help us to continue to develop our proactive approach to change, development and learning for improved patient care and outcomes.

The ability to demonstrate effective communication through multiple mediums, an enthusiastic approach to improving patient care and skills and knowledge to solve clinical challenges and issues sensitively, using a family friendly focus are attributes we are looking for.

You will help us to identify and develop quality programmes which meet both local and national agenda’s to improve outcomes for babies and their families whilst encouraging and engaging contribution from all disciplines across the neonatal service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work on both the City and Queen’s Medical Centre Campuses.

The post holder will be required to:

  • Be an effective leader and role model providing regular direct clinical care using knowledge, skills and experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance to modernise patient services.
  • As a clinical expert promote safe and effective care to all categories of neonates.
  • Provide guidance and support in the implementation of clinical standards and quality initiatives in line with the Trust’s clinical risk management framework.
  • Facilitate the design, production and prioritisation of systems, plans and work programmes to ensure improved clinical quality within the clinical service unit incorporating the Trust’s priorities outlined in the objectives for clinical governance and National agenda.
  • Ensure that the Neonatal Service meets as a minimum the National Standards of the Care Quality Commission and other agencies local, regional and National who identify required standards, that these are embedded in practice.
  • Work flexibly as a member of the ward team to ensure all staff are informed as to the purpose, principles and methods of undertaking and engaging in governance and risk management activities.
