Overview
We are currently supporting a leading principal contractor within the rail and infrastructure sector with the appointment of a Regional HSQE Advisor to cover the Midlands region.
This role will play a key part in supporting Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) performance across regional operations, ensuring compliance with legislation and management systems while actively driving a positive HSQE culture and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable and analytical, with the confidence to engage operational teams, management, clients and external bodies.
Key Responsibilities- Accident & Incident Investigation:
Lead and conduct in-depth investigations into accidents, incidents and near-miss events. - Accident & Incident Investigation:
Gather, analyse and evaluate evidence, data and witness statements to establish facts and contributing factors. - Accident & Incident Investigation:
Identify and document root causes and develop robust corrective and preventative actions. - Accident & Incident Investigation:
Apply recognised investigation methodologies and industry best practice. - Reporting & Communication:
Produce clear, detailed investigation and incident reports, including recommendations and action plans. - Reporting & Communication:
Present findings to internal management and external stakeholders where required. - Reporting & Communication:
Compile interim and final incident reports in line with internal and client requirements. - Reporting & Communication:
Report RIDDOR incidents via the HSE reporting portal. - HSQE Compliance & Assurance:
Support compliance with relevant HSQE legislation, standards and best practice. - HSQE Compliance & Assurance:
Contribute to maintaining and improving management systems aligned to ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. - HSQE Compliance & Assurance:
Escalate incidents appropriately using internal reporting processes. - Stakeholder
Collaboration:
Work closely with operational teams, HSQE colleagues, senior management, risk/claims and legal teams. - Stakeholder
Collaboration:
Liaise with client HSQE teams to ensure incident reporting and investigation requirements are met in line with SLAs and procedures. - Training, Coaching & Awareness:
Provide guidance and coaching to operational teams on incident prevention, reporting and safe systems of work. - Training, Coaching & Awareness:
Develop and deliver HSQE briefings, safety campaigns, shared learning communications and toolbox talks (including e-TBTs). - Training, Coaching & Awareness:
Promote HSQE awareness across sites to prevent recurrence of incidents. - Continuous Improvement & Data Analysis:
Analyse HSQE data to identify trends, risks and areas for improvement. - Continuous Improvement & Data Analysis:
Make data-driven recommendations to support proactive HSQE initiatives. - Continuous Improvement & Data Analysis:
Support the ongoing development and improvement of HSQE policies, procedures and practices. - Site Engagement:
Undertake site visits, inspections and audits, particularly following incidents or within high-risk activities. - Site Engagement:
Attend client meetings, off-site meetings and industry events as required.
- Experience in an HSQE advisory or investigative role, ideally within rail, utilities, telecommunications or a related infrastructure environment.
- Strong understanding of HSQE legislation, standards and best practice.
- Proven accident and incident investigation experience with a methodical, analytical approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports.
- Confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- IT literate, with experience using reporting, data analysis and presentation tools.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally.
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Membership of IOSH or another relevant professional body.
- Accident Investigation qualification (NEBOSH, RoSPA or equivalent) or demonstrable equivalent experience
