An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Production Technician to join the Pharmacy team in the Pharmacy Sterile Production Unit, Queens Medical Centre Campus, at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). You will be joining a team of hardworking and dedicated professionals who formulate, prepare and aseptically compound medicines for our most vulnerable patients.
You will be a Registered Science Technician with the Science Council or GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician. If you do not currently possess the required qualification and registration status, you must be willing to undertake the Science Manufacturing Technician (SMT) course to gain these, in order to fulfil all elements of the job role. The SMT course runs over a 2 year period where tutoring sessions will be delivered online by subject matter experts weekly, accompanied by study time to complete relevant coursework and assignments.
NB. The post holder must be in possession of Level 3 relevant Pharmaceutical Sciences of equivalent qualification and be a registered GPhC or RSciTech Technician to work as a Band 4. If the post holder is working towards this or needs to undertake this qualification and registration the post holder will be paid a spot salary of £27000 per annum until relevant qualification and registration is gained.
Mainduties of the job
In addition to the summary below you need to familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification. This interesting and varied role will require you to process and manufacture a wide range of sterile medicines including chemotherapy and investigational medicinal products for clinical trial patients. The work will be varied and challenging, working to tight deadlines to achieve targets and respond to patient and customer needs.
You should be able to work under pressure, prioritise and organise workloads and be able to work alone or as part of a bigger team. We are looking for confident self‑motivated individuals with excellent IT, communication, problem‑solving and decision-making skills. You will need to be able to work unsupervised in all aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing, including: specialist aseptic dispensing, preparation of investigational medicinal products for clinical trial patients and work in specialised cleanroom environments using specialist equipment.

Person Specification Qualifications- To demonstrate they can be trained, gain new skills and work to set levels of competency
- Educated to GCSE Grade C/4 and above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Level 2 Qualification in Pharmacy Support Services (including Pharmacy Manufacturing Modules) or an equivalent Pharmacy Production Qualification or Experience
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC OR Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) with Science Council
- Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing
- Aseptic dispensing course attended, e.g. Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University)
- Some experience in relevant field of work i.e. pharmacy production, quality control, laboratory work
- Ability to dispense aseptic products accurately following GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and SOP.
- Experience in Aseptics and chemotherapy production
