Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
We have a great opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in the NUH Neuro Rehabilitation Outpatient Team. Neuro Out‑Patients offer specialist multi‑disciplinary assessment and interventions for adults with a range of neurological conditions. The post is 0.6 WTE outpatient plus 0.4 WTE inpatient sessions, with potential for further inpatient coverage. The service is predominantly based at Queen’s Medical Centre but, where clinically indicated, patients may be seen in their own home.
The role is part of a large dynamic SLT service with peer supervision, opportunities for training and development of your clinical and leadership skills. It is a full‑time post, but part‑time requests may be considered. Additional weekend and bank‑holiday work may be required as part of a rota.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide a specialist clinical service and high‑quality Speech and Language Therapy to a range of outpatients with acquired neurological conditions. We are looking for someone with advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection skills. There is close working with the clinical MDT for co‑ordinated and integrated clinical care. The post‑holder will also work with the MDT for service development, service evaluation and governance and will collaborate with other outpatient SLTs within the service for mutual mentoring.
The post holder will provide a specialist clinical service to acute inpatients on the Stroke wards, providing in‑depth assessment and intensive therapy. The post holder will have advanced skills in communication and dysphagia, ideally in instrumental assessments.

Service delivery- Work autonomously to provide a coordinated and highly specialist service to designated specialism within a multi‑disciplinary/multi‑agency context and inform and advise the service leads as to training, resources, trends and development needs.
- Work collaboratively with a variety of different agencies/professionals ensuring management and treatment meets the holistic needs, providing a well co‑ordinated care plan for specialism/setting.
- Represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums.
- Represent speech, language and communication and/or dysphagia needs at agreed forums.
- Participate in multi‑disciplinary projects as agreed.
- Independently manage, triage and prioritise own complex caseload providing a highly specialist SLT assessment, formulation, diagnosis, intervention and advice based on evidence‑based practice.
- Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree
- HCPC and RCSLT registration
- Evidence of appropriate CPD post‑qualifying.
- Excellent IT skill
- Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential for this role.
