Trading Standards Investigator

Overview

The Trading Standards Investigator will support project-based enforcement and investigation work within the Trading Standards team. You will assist in gathering evidence, conducting enquiries, supporting inspections, and contributing to enforcement activity across a range of Trading Standards functions. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently within a regulatory environment.

• Support Trading Standards investigations, including evidence gathering, interviews and case preparation.
• Assist officers with inspections, compliance checks and project-based enforcement activity.
• Record, analyse and maintain accurate case information in line with legal and procedural requirements.
• Engage with businesses, consumers and partner agencies to support fair trading and consumer protection.
• Contribute to project work focused on specific areas of Trading Standards enforcement.
• Support the preparation of reports, statements and documentation for potential legal proceedings.
• Work in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and enforcement protocols.

• Experience in regulatory, enforcement, investigative or compliance-based work desirable.
• Strong analytical, organisational and evidence-gathering skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with businesses, consumers and partner agencies.
• Confident working independently and managing competing priorities.
• Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Knowledge of Trading Standards legislation beneficial but not essential.
• Ability to work flexibly across remote and office-based settings.
