Principal EC&I Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of complex safety‑related projects within a highly regulated environment. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with a strong background in Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) and Functional Safety, particularly within the nuclear industry.

You will play a key role in the delivery of CE&I Safety System design, working closely with the safety case team and technical leads to ensure compliance with relevant standards and lifecycle processes.

• Lead and deliver CE&I safety system design packages across complex, safety‑critical projects.
• Provide technical governance and oversight on functional safety matters.
• Ensure alignment with IEC safety standards, the nuclear functional safety lifecycle, and internal assurance processes.
• Coordinate with Safety Case, Systems Engineering, and wider project teams to ensure safe, compliant, and robust engineering solutions.
• Conduct SIL determination and verification activities.
• Produce and review technical documentation, including safety assessments, design reports, and lifecycle records.
• Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and design justification work streams.
• Lead design reviews, technical workshops, and stakeholder engagements.

• Proven experience delivering CE&I Safety System Design in a highly regulated sector (nuclear preferred).
• Strong understanding of IEC‑61508 and IEC‑61511.
• Familiarity with the nuclear functional safety lifecycle.
• Demonstrable experience with SIL determination and verification activities.
• Experience working directly with or alongside Safety Case teams.
• Ability to obtain SC clearance.
• Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
