Are you currently studying at university and keen to enhance your academic studies with some fantastic workplace experience, working on real-life projects within the highways and construction industry?

One of our Year in Industry Placements could be just the role for you! Via East Midlands Limited (Via) is currently recruiting for someone to join our Highway Infrastructure Services team. You will be based in West Bridgford in Nottinghamshire but working county-wide. Placements start in Summer 2026.

Highways infrastructure is essential to ensure we provide safe access to homes, shops hospitals, schools and businesses and is paramount for public safety.

Our placements offer first-hand experience working on highway projects. Areas you could be working on include major projects and improvements, carriageway and footway schemes and pedestrian crossing schemes.

You’ll get the chance to experience site meetings, surveys, the design stage of projects and be involved in ensuring and maintaining quality documentation. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and design professionals and learn first‑hand from our industry experts. Placement students will be able to gain experience linked to their professional development and we will actively support you in gaining evidence to support this.

Our placement opportunity will be beneficial for your final year of university, too. Following the successful completion of your placement and if you enjoy your time with us, there may also be the opportunity to ‘fast‑track’ on to our graduate scheme once you finish your degree.

Our Year in Industry placements are only open to those currently studying (i.e. students who will be returning to university following the completion of the placement year).

We’re looking for students who have a keen interest in Highways and Construction and want to get some great experience within the sector. We look for those studying toward degrees in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Design or similar.
