About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at Wings School Notts. Working under the direction of the Assistant Headteacher, you will play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing, engagement and personal development of children and young people with SEMH and ASC needs.
This role is central to ensuring students feel safe, understood and supported both in school and, where appropriate, beyond the school environment. You will work directly with students who may struggle with attendance, behaviour, emotional regulation or engagement with learning, delivering targeted educational support that helps them re-engage and thrive. You will also work closely with families, including undertaking home visits and supporting flexible and personalised learning arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
Supporting individual pupils or small groups to engage with learning and integrate into full time education
Delivering sessions or sequences of sessions
Coordination of pupil learning activities with subject leaders, including their delivery and assessment
Supporting pupil welfare and wellbeing
Adhering to the school’s systems, structures, policies and procedures.
Actively supporting school activities where required, including attending educational trips, extra-curricular activities and parents’ evenings, which may require some out-of-hours availability.
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and carers.
Supporting and Delivering Learning
Deliver academic and social learning activities in venues, including the pupils’ home, away from the main school site
Transport pupils to and from learning venues or to the school.
Organise activities to support positive mental health and wellbeing for pupils.
Construct a timetable of learning activities for pupils, reviewing them on a fortnightly basis.
Support pupils as they make the transition to attending educational activities on the school site. Coordinate this transition with senior leaders and teaching staff.
Help to organise vocational placements for students, were appropriate. Support pupils with transport and supervision to these placements.
Support pupils and families to attend important appointments.
Support pupils and families with transition arrangements to KS5 providers
Keep accurate records of pupil engagement and attendance.
Pupil Welfare and safeguarding
Promote exemplary standards of behaviour, in line with school policies and procedures.
Understanding the school’s safeguarding procedures and actively promoting pupils’ wellbeing and safety.
Working with the DSL and their deputies to ensure safeguarding is at the core of your practise.
Contribute to risk assessments for pupils, locations and activities as appropriate.
Under instruction or supervision, manage systems, procedures and policy to secure positive welfare, personal development, behaviour, and engagement of the pupil cohort
Delivery of pre-determined behaviour, care or welfare support programmes
Provide mentoring or counselling to pupils
Keep appropriate records regarding behaviour, engagement, welfare and safeguarding
