To provide assistances in the leadership and management of the Science department. In addition to the requirements of a class teacher, specific areas of responsibility and key tasks include:

• To have an enthusiasm for the subject which motivates and supports other staff and encourages a shared understanding of the contribution Science can make to all aspects of pupils’ lives.
• To support the head of department in the day to day running of the Science faculty and develop departmental strategy.
• To strategically lead the Science faculty in the absence of the Head of Department (alongside the leadership team).
• Be responsible for ensuring students make at least expected progress, and help in the monitoring and implementation of systems, structures, policies and procedures across KS3/KS4.
• Contribute to the design, implementation, and review of an engaging and coherent Science curriculum that supports progression and high achievement for all students.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to evaluate the impact of teaching on learning outcomes, analysing student work and progress to guide effective curriculum development.
• Report student progress regularly to the HOD and SLT link.
• Lead effective intervention for underachieving students and assist with provision within the department, with development, monitoring and evaluation at regular intervals.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties to ensure the effective running of the department.
