The post offers teaching opportunities, the chance to build your CV for a training number or future posts, the chance to undertake a PGcert/PGDip in medical education, and to present at local, regional, national conferences and research innovative ideas in medical education. The Department fully supports all Clinical Teaching Fellows in developing the course and UMED also has its own annual Undergraduate Medical Education Conference, where best and innovative practice can be shared.

You will be based on the QMC campus and will have office space, desk and PC. You will be working alongside other Clinical Teaching Fellows both in your own and in other specialties and will be able to work together on projects and share good practice.

All courses have administrative support.

Work schedule:

Monday to Friday, both AM and PM shifts. Typical duties include undergraduate teaching, child health ward support/teaching and assessments, and teaching support/projects.

• Supporting medical students in clinical setting
  • Being present on the wards/on calls to help medical students navigate through the clinical environment.
  • Provide help/additional bedside teaching where required.
  • Deliver practical skills session for medical students, including workplace based assessments, case based discussion tutorials, clinical reasoning case based teaching and professional development forums.
• Supporting paediatric teaching sessions and projects
  • Provide additional staffing support to simulated ward rounds / workshops / surgical teachings / WPBAs.
  • Work with current teaching fellows in developing projects.
  • You may be asked to support teaching in other areas of the clinical course when the Paediatrics and Child Health Course is not running.
• Projects/ research
  • Carry out projects within the department as required.
  • Opportunities to support any modules that you may undertake as part of the PGCert in Medical Education, with 50% per module funding.
  • Support embedding the clinical curriculum.
  • Help to develop teaching materials to support system teaching/cases.
  • Help to develop and deliver bedside teaching sessions that support the clinical cases discussed.
  • Review effectiveness of new curriculum and adapt teaching delivery as needed.

• MBBS or equivalent
• GMC registration
• BLS Training
• MRCPCH or equivalent
• APLS certification

• Paediatric clinical experience.
• Must have two Years in NHS and have worked in a recognised FY1 & FY2 post in the NHS in the UK (this does not include a clinical attachment).

• Evidence of undergraduate/postgraduate teaching in a variety of settings including formal and informal teaching.
