Overview

Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust (NUH) is looking for a fulltime 12 month fixed term Stroke Consultant Physician to join an existing team of 10 NHS and academic consultants providing Stroke services to the people of Nottinghamshire and beyond. NUH is a Comprehensive Stroke Centre for the East Midlands and provides Endovascular, Neurosurgical services, 24/7 Thrombolysis and Hyperacute Care. NUH hosts the Mechanical Thrombectomy Centre for the East Midlands region.

The service is expanding following the successful business case for expanding Mechanical Thrombectomy 24/7. The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic and committed team. The Trust is committed to further development of the Stroke service to maintain its long standing position in the forefront of stroke care provision. The post holder will play a key part in developing the existing stroke pathway, providing consultant input to hyper acute stroke, acute stroke, intensive rehabilitation and continuing stroke rehabilitation.

• Join an enthusiastic, committed team and contribute to a 24/7 stroke service.
• Provide consultant input to hyper-acute stroke, acute stroke, intensive rehabilitation and continuing stroke rehabilitation.
• Develop the existing stroke pathway and support the Comprehensive Stroke Centre services.
• Engage with the 24/7 thrombolysis service and 24/7 regional Mechanical Thrombectomy services.
• Support the multidisciplinary team and participate in outpatient clinics and service development.
• Contribute to the expansion of the Mechanical Thrombectomy service and related regional neurosurgical services.

• The Stroke Service currently has six stroke consultants, two academic consultants, one neurologist and one acute medicine consultant, providing a 24/7 service.
• The Trust is committed to further development of the service to maintain its long standing position in the forefront of stroke care provision.
• The Comprehensive Stroke Centre at NUH consists of:
• 16 bedded hyper acute stroke unit at QMC campus
• 34 bedded acute rehabilitation stroke unit at QMC campus
• 18 bedded long-term rehabilitation stroke unit at City campus and 6 beds in Connect House (further rehab beds)
• A 7 day Fast Track TIA clinic
• Stroke outpatient clinics
• 24/7 thrombolysis service supported by telemedicine
• A regional Mechanical Thrombectomy service
• Regional Neurosurgical service provision
