Consultant Obstetrician (with an interest in diabetes)

Go back Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts

The closing date is 09 February 2026

We are looking for a Consultant Obstetrician to join our tertiary hospital team.

Our maternity service has a variety of specialist clinics (both scan and non-scan) including mental health, vulnerable service users, twins, preterm birth, small baby and Rainbow. The services are multi‑professional, including our specialist midwives.

The general obstetric commitments include routine and emergency obstetrics with non‑resident on‑call (for obstetrics only). The key clinical requirements of the post are to provide consultant labour suite cover, elective caesarean lists, ward rounds, maternity triage, assessment unit cover and antenatal clinics.

The successful candidate will be joining our multi‑disciplinary diabetes in pregnancy service, with a weekly clinic and regular MDT meetings.

We have a two‑tier gynaecology on‑call consultant rota. One consultant is rostered to cover emergency gynaecology at the QMC campus, the other consultant is on‑call for complex surgery, which includes oncology at City and maternity on both campuses, in the event that a gynaecologist is required to support the obstetric team.

Please see the job plan for a description of the clinical sessions. The balance of activities will be as described, but the scheduling may be amended, after discussion, prior to commencement of the post.

Main duties of the job

The draft Job Plan embedded within the Job Specification reflects our best assessment of what the final plan will be, based on 10 PAs.

Any consultant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full‑time will be eligible to be considered for the post on a part‑time basis; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

This service provided by maternity is provided across both campuses, but your base for emergency obstetrics is the City campus. The proposed Job Plan is detailed in this job description.
