Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you an experienced construction professional with a strong background in residential delivery, looking to step into a Clerk of Works Director role within a consultancy that plays a major part in building affordable homes across the UK? We are recruiting on behalf of a respected construction consultancy whose work is heavily focused on the delivery of affordable housing schemes for housing associations, registered providers and developers.

This is a full‑time, permanent opportunity for someone who has progressed from the tools into site management and is now looking to apply their technical expertise in a quality‑focused, client‑side environment. If you have hands‑on construction experience, a deep understanding of how homes are built, and a passion for improving build quality and compliance, we would like to hear from you.

The Team:
Our client is a well‑established construction consultancy offering quantity surveying, employer's agent, project management, Clerk of Works and advisory services. With around 75% of their turnover generated through affordable housing delivery, they are a trusted partner to housing associations, registered providers and developers across the region. Their team is known for its technical expertise, collaborative approach and commitment to delivering high‑quality homes.

With a strong pipeline of repeat business and long‑standing client relationships, they offer a stable and supportive environment with clear opportunities for progression.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out regular site inspections to monitor build quality, compliance and adherence to specifications.
  • Identifying defects, reporting issues promptly and ensuring corrective actions are completed to a high standard.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical documents to ensure works are delivered in line with client expectations.
  • Providing clear, accurate and timely reports to clients, highlighting progress, risks and areas requiring attention.
  • Building strong working relationships with site teams, contractors and client representatives.
  • Supporting the delivery of affordable housing schemes by ensuring homes meet required standards, regulations and employer's requirements.
  • Acting as a trusted technical advisor, using your practical background to challenge workmanship where necessary.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across the consultancy's Clerk of Works service.
Qualifications
  • A background working on residential construction sites, ideally progressing from the tools into site management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of materials, trades, construction methods and quality standards.
  • Experience delivering or overseeing housing projects, with an understanding of affordable housing requirements.
  • Confidence in identifying defects, challenging workmanship and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple schemes simultaneously.
  • A genuine passion for improving build quality and ensuring homes are delivered safely and compliantly.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high standards.

This is a standout opportunity to join a consultancy with a strong reputation in the affordable housing sector, offering long‑term career development and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the quality of new homes.

Package includes
  • Competitive salary (£75,000 - £85,000)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Clear progression opportunities
  • Supportive, collaborative working environment
  • Generous holiday allowance and enhanced pension
  • Exposure to high‑profile affordable housing projects across the region
