Job Summary:

As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to children and young people residing in our residential facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the well-being, safety, and development of the children, while creating a nurturing and homely environment. Working as part of a team, you will build positive relationships, implement care plans, and facilitate engaging activities to promote their growth and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, well-being, and physical and emotional needs are met.
  • Build positive relationships with the children, establishing trust and promoting a sense of belonging and security.
  • Implement individual care plans and support strategies, collaborating with colleagues and relevant professionals to meet the specific needs and goals of each child.
  • Create a nurturing and stimulating environment, organising and facilitating age appropriate activities, outings, and recreational opportunities.
  • Support children in their daily routines, including meals, personal hygiene, schoolwork, and leisure activities, encouraging independence and life skills development.
  • Observe and document significant information, incidents, and progress in written reports and contribute to the overall assessment and evaluation process.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, therapists, and external professionals to provide comprehensive care, ensuring effective communication and coordination of support services.
  • Promote and maintain a safe and secure environment, implementing safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and health and safety guidelines.
  • Actively seek to build strong relationships with our young people and promote the development and maintenance of positive relationships as an important life skill
  • Support children in developing positive social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution techniques, providing guidance and role modelling appropriate behaviour.
  • Participate in teamwork and professional development that helps foster a creative and collaborative team culture in the pursuit of high-quality child centred care.
  • Attend relevant training and professional development sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills in working with children and young people in a residential setting.
  • Qualifications/Skills/Experience Person Specification: QCF 3 (Desirable).

    • Completion / working towards completion of QCF level 3 within the regulatory 2 year requirement (Essential).
    • Prior experience working with children and young people, preferably in a residential care or childcare setting.
    • Sound understanding of child development principles, attachment theory, and trauma informed care approaches.
    • Ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience.
