Sr. Research Engineer - Electrical/Power Generation

FM, a leading mutual insurance company, seeks a forward-thinking Electrical Engineer who can innovate and solve complex problems in power generation, equipment, and renewable science.

Position Overview

As a pivotal member of our multidisciplinary team, you will lead projects that evaluate new and existing designs, emerging technologies, and safety/protection systems. Your focus will be on engineering risk & reliability, developing advanced inspection, maintenance, and monitoring techniques, performing root cause analyses of industrial loss events, and providing guidance to industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop engineering solutions, evaluate new technologies, and advance scientific knowledge in electrical engineering.
  • Serve as a technical communicator between the company, its customers, and external organizations.
  • Develop and market proposals for research development supported by internal and external sources.
  • Progressively develop competence in various engineering or scientific techniques to meet company objectives.
  • Keep the Team Leader/Area Manager informed of project status and progress, addressing significant matters affecting objectives.
Education & Experience
  • PhD in electrical engineering or MS + 5 years of related experience.
  • 5+ years of design and/or operation & maintenance experience on electrical/power generation equipment (generators, transformers, wind, solar, battery energy storage).
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Exposure to power electronics, electrical system studies, and modeling.
  • Leading or publishing in peer‑review journals recognized in the field is a plus.
Skills
  • Continuous learning and expanding abilities while tackling challenging problems.
  • State‑of‑the‑art knowledge in a special area of electrical engineering, including analysis and experimental techniques.
  • Proficient problem‑solving skills, able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic multidisciplinary team.
  • Superior written and verbal communication for report writing and conveying technical concepts.
  • Demonstrated project management skills (technical, financial, personnel) and familiarity with office tools for business/technical communication.
Compensation, Grade, and Job Title

Will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and technical skill set.
