About Taverham Veterinary Hospital

Are you a Veterinary Surgeon looking for a new opportunity in a thriving, well-equipped hospital that truly values your individuality? At Taverham Veterinary Hospital in Norfolk, we’re proud to offer a rewarding role within a forward‑thinking team that puts patient care, professional growth, and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

Hospital Overview

Our large, purpose‑built hospital, just outside Norwich, is dedicated to the care of small animals and offers a stimulating environment where your clinical skills can shine.

Facilities

Our hospital is equipped to an exceptional standard, providing everything you need to deliver gold‑standard care. With seven consulting rooms, two dental suites, two operating theatres, a dedicated procedures room, and an advanced imaging suite featuring digital X‑ray and CT scanner, we’re ready for anything.

We also have separate wards for day patients and hospitalised animals, an isolation unit, ISFM Gold cat kennels, and dedicated cat and dog waiting areas. Our diagnostic capabilities include endoscopy (flexible and rigid), ultrasound with Doppler, dental X‑ray, tonometry, a slit lamp, and a comprehensive in‑house IDEXX laboratory with EPOC for out‑of‑hours testing. Behind the scenes, our dispensary is supported by a skilled pharmacy team, and our staff areas include a comfortable break room and meeting spaces where ideas and teamwork come to life.

Caseload

At Taverham, no two days are the same. You’ll see a mix of dogs, cats, rabbits, and small furries, with a balanced rota between consulting and surgery that supports continuity of care and clinical development.

Surgical duties range from routine procedures such as laparoscopic spays and neutering to advanced soft tissue work, lump removals, and emergency surgeries. As the designated out‑of‑hours provider for 24 local practices, our team also sees a wide variety of ECC cases, ideal for vets who enjoy a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.

You’ll primarily be based at our main hospital, though occasional support may be needed at one of our two smaller branches in Longwater (which also features a hydrotherapy treadmill) or Aylsham. Collaboration between our sites ensures smooth case management and a strong sense of teamwork across the group.

Team & Culture

You’ll be joining a talented and friendly team of 34 vets with 8 new graduates, supported by 41 RVNs, and a further 35 support staff who help everything run seamlessly. Our nurses are highly involved in patient care and clinical decision‑making, taking responsibility for blood sampling, radiography, inpatient care, and nurse‑led consultations.

We take pride in our warm, welcoming culture where experience is shared freely, and every team member is valued. Our vets include certificate holders across cardiology, imaging, medicine, surgery (including orthopaedics), ECC, and dentistry, and we actively encourage and fund further study for anyone interested in developing their expertise.

Outside of work, we’re a sociable bunch who enjoy spending time together, whether that’s through regular team events, nights out, or running marathons together. It’s this spirit of support and friendship that makes Taverham such a special place to work.

Community Involvement

We’re proud to support our community and give back through partnerships with organisations such as Street Vet, Greyhound Homefinders, RSPCA, and Cats Protection. We believe that community connection is a vital part of veterinary life, and our team loves getting involved in local charity work and outreach.

We also meet monthly for communication days to ensure we stay connected, aligned, and inspired because when our team thrives, our patients benefit most.

Flexible Working

Our vets usually work between the hours of 8:30 am and 6:30 pm and most choose to work their 40 hours over 4 days, however we are happy to discuss working patterns and part‑time hours as we understand how important a good work‑life balance is. There is a share of 1:4 weekends and you would be required to work 2 Bank…
