Our client, a well-established manufacturing business based in Norwich, is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to join their team. This is a hands-on supervisory role responsible for leading a team involved in both electrical and mechanical machine assembly operations.

The successful candidate will ensure that production output meets safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high team performance. The role oversees day-to-day shop-floor activities, coordinates workflow, supports technical problem-solving, and ensures adherence to assembly standards, engineering specifications, and operational procedures.

Key Accountabilities
Production & Quality

Ensure quality and on-time manufacture of machine products
Oversee the assembly of machinery, sub-assemblies, and electro-mechanical units to engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and build specifications
Monitor workflow and production schedules to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to schedule
Enforce quality standards and ensure first-time-right output
Conduct in-process inspections and support root-cause analysis for defects or rework issues
Maintain compliance with ISO, safety, and regulatory requirements
Support implementation of engineering changes and ensure documentation is updated and followed
Team Leadership

Direct and motivate the manufacturing team
Conduct daily briefings, allocate work, and ensure appropriate resource coverage across shifts
Support training and upskilling of assemblers, including competency assessments and cross-training
Drive a positive, safe, and inclusive team culture focused on accountability and high performance
Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement improvements using Lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, standard work, and waste reduction
Analyse production data to uncover trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for efficiency gains
Champion continuous improvement behaviours and empower the team to contribute ideas
Ensure metrics and targets are clear using Visual Management across the department
Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure all EHS standards and policies are adhered to and that a strong safety culture is actively promoted
Ensure all BRCGS standards and policies are adhered to and that quality culture is actively promoted
Promote and enforce safe working practices
Ensure risk assessments, method statements, and equipment checks are up to date
Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions where required
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Coordinate with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to resolve constraints and ensure smooth operations
Ensure compliance with manufacturing processes, standard work, and assembly documentation
About you
Essential:

Experience supervising teams in a manufacturing environment, ideally in machine or electro-mechanical assembly
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and mechanical/electrical assembly practices
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop production teams
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to react quickly to changing priorities
Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:

Formal technical qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering

Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting
Background in low-volume, high-complexity machinery builds or precision assemblies
Skills

Strong supervision and communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong time management
Ability to systematically work through problems to find the right solution
