Position: Technical Lead - Identity & Access Management (IAM)

Salary on appointment will be £38,784 per annum, with an annual increment up to £45,413 per annum.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Lead - Identity & Access Management (IAM) to join the IAM team within the ITCS Departments Cyber Security team.

In this role you will be a key figure in the institution’s digital security strategy, responsible for leading the design, development, and ongoing operation of secure identity services. Reporting directly to the Head of Security & Risk Management, this position ensures that access to institutional systems and data is governed by robust, policy-driven controls aligned with regulatory and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implementing identity and access management (IAM) frameworks in line with organisational goals and compliance with regulations like GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Streamlining user authentication with single sign-on solutions and enhancing security with multi-factor authentication.
  • Managing user access rights from onboarding to offboarding, including integration with cloud services, enterprise applications and directory services like LDAP or Active Directory.
  • Using role-based and attribute-based access controls to manage user privileges and access, aligning with organisational roles and attributes.

The IAM Technical Lead will collaborate across IT, HR, student services, and external vendors to ensure the successful deployment of the new solution, while maintaining continuity of service and compliance. With deep expertise in identity lifecycle management, federated identity protocols (e.g. SAML, OpenID Connect), and access governance, the role will evolve into a strategic custodian of the institution’s identity infrastructure — enabling secure digital transformation across academic, research, and administrative domains.

You must be able to meet all the essential criteria for the role set out in the Person Specification, full details can be found in the Candidate Brochure. Click the 'Apply' button above.
