Who are we?

Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health. We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country.

We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues to tell us what it’s like to work here, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the third year running. The feedback has directly contributed to Newmedica being listed among the UK’s top 50 Best Workplaces™ for 2025.

Role overview

We are looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner to join our Norwich site. Ideally, this will be 40 hours over 5 days per week including weekends on a rota basis, although part time applicants will be considered.

You’ll provide and manage a specialised patient care pathway (in YAG laser, oculoplastic minor surgery, intravitreal injections, glaucoma specialist etc). You will also be responsible for training junior staff, contributing to service development and possibly managing clinical teams.

Aside from providing specialised eye care, you'll also undertake medicine management and audit duties as well as maintaining accurate patient records. You’ll manage clinical waste and ensure the correct disposal procedures are implemented.

What skills and experience do I need?

You need to be a fully qualified Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner and need a current registration with the NMC or HCPC. You will have specialised expertise in eyecare, perhaps having completed an OPT pathway, and will be able to autonomously diagnose or treat certain conditions, with previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience.

Alongside the mandatory qualifications the following things will be advantageous:

  • Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry
  • Capable of working in a fast paced, high-volume theatre or clinic setting
  • The training and coaching of others
  • The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development
  • A competent user of computer systems and programmes
  • An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
  • A good team player – happy to jump in and support others when required
What we’re offering
  • A salary of around £45,000 per year, dependent on experience
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and an extra day off for your birthday
  • A company pension scheme
  • Access to a range of benefits including free eye tests, discounted or free glasses, a free 24/7 well-being/counselling/advice service and a retail/technology discount scheme
  • An environment where your learning and development is supported through a range of various learning tools and courses
  • Working with a friendly multi-disciplinary team passionate about improving the lives of our patients
  • A bright, spacious and modern working environment, built to the highest standards
