A leading independent Oil & Gas company based in Norwich, is currently seeking a Technical Safety Engineer to join their busy team.

This is a great opportunity to join the QSHE team, where the successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of safety engineering support. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with UK HSE legislation, codes of practice, guidelines, industry standards and best practice

Key responsibilities include

• Carry out competent in-house safety studies in support of operations and projects including but not limited to following:
o Chairing and facilitating safety studies such as Total Risk Management, HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie, ALARP
o Development of Barrier Diagrams (Bowties)
o Consequence modelling using DNV GL PHAST software is mandatory
o Mini Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) including Event and Fault Tree development
o Hazardous Area Classification
o Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment

• Preparing the scope of requirements, commissioning, managing and reviewing technical safety studies from competent contractors in support of operations and projects including but not limited to following:
o QRA and Cost Benefit Analysis
o Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Assessment
o Probabilistic Explosion Assessment
o Quantitative/Qualitative Safety Critical System Impairment Assessment
o Occupied Building Risk Assessment

• Provide safety engineering support for asset modification proposals and identify the appropriate safety studies that should be completed.

• Own and manage the performance of Active Fire Protection systems, and carry out necessary inspection and assurance activities for compliance with performance standards.

• Engage with operations and projects to ensure that all necessary regulatory requirements and approved codes of practice are identified, permits obtained and conditions complied with.

• Provide coaching, guidance and advice to operations, engineering and other support teams to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

• Maintain current in changes to HSE legislations, codes, guidelines and industry standards, interpreting these changes and assisting in the development of actions to meet such requirements.

• Participate in incident and accident investigation root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventative actions in support of this

• Identifying opportunities and efficiencies to improve overall QSHE standards and performance throughout.

Safety Critical Tasks:

Risk Management - Safety Studies
Carry out competent safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie, ALARP, Consequence Modelling, Mini-QRA and FERA or facilitate and manage the safety studies carried out by selected consultants in support of the operations or to inform project/operational decisions.
Management of Safety Critical Elements – Active Fire Protection Systems
Manage the performance of active fire protection systems and carry out necessary inspections and assurance activities for continuous compliance with the performance standards.
Management of Change (PMOC) - Technical Review
Review the MOCs from technical safety points of view. This requires good judgement to ensure asset integrity and compliance with regulations is maintained

The successful candidate will ideally have a higher technical qualification in the engineering field along with previous experience in Safety Engineering in the Oil and Gas industry. You will have good software knowledge MS Office (Word and Excel) PHAST, PHA-Pro, Bow Tie XP, FLARESIM.
You will have the ability to prepare technical reports and letters and work to deadlines. You will be organised and methodical, have the ability to interact with Senior Management and regulatory bodies as well as be technically Confident.
