The Manager, Process Engineer (Molding) oversees all the activities of the tool room, set‑up area, press setup, and molding process. The manager focuses on optimizing molding uptime and quality by ensuring molds are ready for production and molding processes are consistent. Responsibilities include managing the department budget, prioritizing workload, and evaluating and directing the most efficient processes to complete the work assignments within the department.
The Manager uses the NBS Next Framework to drive a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Champion the safety vision and “Journey to Zero” by promoting safe behaviors and addressing unsafe conditions.
- Lead 6S initiatives to maintain a clean, organized production floor and eliminate waste using visual management tools.
- Provide leadership and support to Mold Makers and Mold Maintenance Technicians.
- Coordinate tool room and set‑up supervisors’ activities with the manufacturing team, supporting labor flex between tool‑room and setup areas based on workload demands.
- Work with the team to optimize molding processes for great efficiency and ensure product quality.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to technicians, document existing processes, and develop new manufacturing processes as required.
- Plan and conduct Gemba walks with the production team.
- Lead Six Sigma initiatives: use DMAIC, DOE, and regression analysis to achieve data‑driven improvements.
- Offer technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Lead initiatives in cost reduction, process improvement, and employee training.
- Recommend upgrades, repairs, and replacements for tool room & injection molding equipment and suppliers.
- Participate in design reviews for new tooling and improvements to existing tooling.
- Set clear objectives, priorities, and goals for team members.
- Monitor departmental performance against goals and budget adherence.
- Identify and implement solutions to improve departmental processes, systems, and policies.
- Coordinate with managers and peers to schedule projects and maintain alignment.
- Develop and maintain training materials and processes for personnel and equipment.
- Hire, coach, and develop employees to increase engagement and performance.
- Identify employees for promotion or additional training, address performance or procedural challenges.
- Support company vision and strategic initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field (preferred).
- 5–10 years of experience in tool room and molding operations.
- Strong technical knowledge of tooling, mold design, mold setting, and process development.
- 5+ years of management experience required.
Skills And Abilities
- Remain calm under pressure; strong decision‑making skills in high‑pressure situations.
- High degree of mechanical and technical skill with comprehensive knowledge of tooling and injection molding processes.
- Familiar with injection molding design, fabrication technology, and materials such as Polycarbonate, Polyamide (Nylon), Polyoxymethylene (POM, Acetal), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polypropylene (HDPE/LDPE), Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT), impact modifiers, clarifying agents, UV stabilizers.
- Ability to work from blueprints, CAD models, diagrams, or samples to very close tolerances.
- Proven change agent with strong influencing abilities, especially with frontline teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with individuals at all organization levels.
- Ability to establish and maintain high level relationships with suppliers.
- Proven ability to implement process management, value stream execution, and continuous improvement activities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
