Join Norwalk Public Schools as the Head Coach for the Varsity Softball team for the  school year. The role focuses on coaching student-athletes, developing tactics, and fostering a love for the sport.

• Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate.
• Assess players’ skills and assign team positions.
• Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time for individual and team development.
• Work with the athletic director to schedule facilities for practices and competition.
• Supervise and assign duties to assistant coaches, as necessary.
• Coach and instruct players individually or in groups on rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques.
• Observe players during competition and practice to determine needs for improvement.
• Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Monitor academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
• Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
• Confer with parents/guardians regarding the athletic performance of their children.
• Follow state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletics program.
• Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
• Act as a team representative and promote the sport through communication with media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.
• Follow procedures for the care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
• Work with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at season’s end.
• Participate in special activities such as parents’ night, banquets, awards nights, and pep assemblies.
• Interact positively with staff, students, and parents.
• Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.

• Experience working with high school students.
• Knowledge of academic areas affecting athletes.
• Clear and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Active listening skills.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Basic knowledge of subject matter relevant to the role.
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent reading comprehension.
• Excellent math comprehension.

• Minimum High School Diploma required.
• Connecticut coaching certificate.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED training;
  Connecticut Coaching Module #15 certificate.
• High school or college coaching experience preferred; head coach, assistant coach, player, or education experience may substitute.
• Three years’ high school coaching experience.
• Effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of softball.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
